Meerkat Mayhem
25 June – 16 September
Meet the meerkats and make some mischief this winter at Werribee Open Range
Zoo’s new meerkat-themed play space.
Kids under 16 visit free during school holidays*, so it’s the perfect time to discover
the new play space. There’s a meerkat burrow to crawl through, logs and rocks to
clamber over and a special lookout where children can take turns as the sentry,
watching over the savannah for birds of prey and sounding the alert!
With views across to the Zoo’s growing meerkat family, the new space provides kids
with an opportunity to watch and learn; creating their very own meerkat manor as
they explore, play, forage and take turns as chief lookout.
The new play space is also conveniently located right next to the popular Meerkat
Bistro, with parents able to relax with a coffee or meal out on the deck as the kids
play.
Popping out of the meerkat burrow, kids can climb up to the look-out, using the
binoculars to search the skies and perfect their meerkat sentry pose. When they spot
an Eagle hovering in the air, it’s time to sound the alarm and race back to the burrow
for safety.
Each day there will be a special Meerkat Keeper Talk and feed, providing a special
opportunity to learn more about these amazing animals.
*Entry to the Zoo is free for kids under 16 during the Victorian school holidays, public
holidays and weekends.
