Junior School students at St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School recently welcomed a new member to the school, ‘Hilly’ a three-month-old labrador.
Hilly is ‘in training’ to become a Seeing Eye Dog and will spend two days a week at the junior school for the next year or so. Hilly lives with the Fontaine family and later next year will go into training and assessment at SEDA to become a Seeing Eye Dog for someone in need.
It has been well documented that dogs can bring a calming and positive influence when introduced to environments such as hospitals, schools and residential homes.
Wearing her blue ‘L’s coat signifies that Hilly is working, and the students were taught the rules and expectations around Hilly while she is ‘working’.
