Do you use Cloth Nappies, or have thought about the idea? Then you can learn more about them at the City of Casey’s free annual expo on Saturday, March 19th. The even aims to promote cloth nappy use and give visitors the opportunity to find out more about the different brands, styles and benefits of cloth nappies under one roof. There will also be organic foods, sustainably produced toys and other green products for sale on the day.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz said the council advocated for the use of cloth nappies due to their environmental and financial benefits.
“Whilst disposable nappies are cheaper to purchase per nappy, each child will go through thousands of them. The savings from using cloth nappies over disposables has been estimated as being up to $5,000 per child. Disposable nappies, which are made mainly from oil (a non-renewable resource), wood pulp and a host of different chemicals, contribute more than two tonnes of waste per child to landfill, which take hundreds of years to break down,” Cr Aziz said.
“Cloth nappies are no longer just the terry toweling squares that you might remember from many years ago, there are now many different styles and brands, they’re better fitted, have covers and liners and are more practical. Council even offers a monthly rebate draw for residents who purchase cloth nappies, where if they send in their receipts for cloth nappies, they have a monthly chance to win half of their purchase price back up to the value of $300.”
Visitors to the expo will be invited to provide feedback on the day to go in the running to win a Greentom pram made from recycled plastic, valued at $999. The Casey Cloth Nappy Expo will run from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm at the City of Casey Civic Centre, Magid Drive, Narre Warren on Saturday 19 March 2016.
