Is your little one potty trained? Do you have extra nappies lying around? Don’t throw them out! You can donate them to the Nappy Collective and help other mothers in need.
The Nappy Collective is a volunteer run, community-based organisation established in 2013, with the purpose of redistributing unused and leftover nappies to over 150 organisations that support families in crisis or need. Over 1.4 million nappies (about $630,000 worth) were donated in the last collective
Bass MP Brian Paynter has opened his Wonthaggi office doors to be one of 380 workplaces Australia wide where people can donate their leftover nappies for the Nappy Collective, from Friday 14 October to Friday 28 October.
Mr Paynter’s office is at 9 McBride Avenue, Wonthaggi, and is open between 10am and 4pm. Nappies can be put in the box provided in the foyer. There is no need to donate a full box or bag of nappies, individual nappies out of packaging is fine.
“Your spring cleaning efforts will benefit organisations that support victims of domestic violence, homeless mothers and mothers in need,” Mr Paynter said. “Demand continues to increase with shelters and welfare agencies struggling to purchase nappies for their clients on limited funds.”
Nappy Collective director Lisa Simon said any amount of spare nappies were greatly appreciated.
“People who have donated tell us amazing stories of finding leftover nappies stuffed deep in closets, in the boot of their cars, and at the grandparents’ house,” she said.
“This is why we are encouraging everyone to start their spring cleaning now, and to donate any spare nappies they find to our collective rather than adding to landfill.”
