Cardinia Cultural Centre has been helping kids to get crafty with their free arts and crafts workshops.
From watercolour painting, to making paper polar bears and rainbow streamers, there has been something for everyone!
Led by local artist and qualified community services worker Kristina Kimtia, the workshops are specifically designed to create growth opportunities for kids aged up to 5 years old.
Kristina shared a little more about the workshops and some of their benefits.
Tell us a little bit about the workshops at Cardinia Cultural Centre?
Every week we have different arts and craft activities, as well as interactive toys and books so families can really get the most out of each session.
What are the benefits of the workshops?
Each activity is designed to build motor skills, encourage creative play and strengthen the bond between child and caregiver.
The workshops also create an opportunity for children to make friends and socialise, as well as giving parents and guardians the chance to create connections with each other.
What inspired Cardinia Cultural Centre and yourself to create the workshops?
Being an artist and a community services student, I recognised that this would be a wonderful opportunity to mesh my two passions of art and community together to create a space where kids could learn and express their creativity.
The last few years have been difficult for many young families with children either being born during lockdown or just beforehand.
I really wanted to create a program during my placement that catered for the growing number of families across the shire and give kids a space where they can thrive and play!
What do you hope kids and their families take away from the workshops?
I hope that kids and families gain a sense of connection, not only with each other but with their community and other children their age. I also hope that kids and families can leave each workshop feeling like they have been enriched in some way…and also had heaps of fun!
What classes are coming up and where can people find out more?
